The Pope and TERRAPLAS in harmony again for 2008
The World Youth Day celebrations at Longchamps Racecourse in Paris, France during August 1997 saw the use of TERRAPLAS® to protect the racing surface for Pope John Paul II’s revered visit.
Eleven years on and July 2008 sawanother renowned racing surface to protect for the World Youth Day Overnight Vigil Papal Mass - this time Pope Benedict XVI at the Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, Australia. World Youth Day is a prestigious event, said to be the largest youth event in the World, which attracted more international visitors to Sydney than the 2000 Olympics.

Protecting the illustrious surface at Randwick from the anticipated volume of pilgrims necessitated the very best protection – and as the Randwick Spring Carnival was set to take place only shortly after WYD, considerable negotiation had to be undertaken between all the affected parties to ensure that the very best, proven protection was implemented to ensure minimal disruption to the very full racing calendar at Randwick – TERRAPLAS® was of course the product of choice for the exacting demands of WYD, in view of TERRAPLAS®’s considerable proven success throughout the World over 20 years of event experience.
After being used at Randwick for this prestigious event, the TERRAPLAS® was sold on to the ANZ Stadium (Olympic Stadium) in Sydney to protect their valuable turf during their busy concert season.
